It is the
holiday season once again.
For those
who rushed to the departmental stores weeks away from December 25 to do
Christmas shopping, good for you. The stockings are stuffed, the gifts are
wrapped and the menu for the big Christmas dinner has already been well
prepared ahead of time.
Then there
are those like me – people who put off all Christmas related activities to the
eleventh hour, hoping that miraculously all the shopping and gifting would be
taken care of by itself.
Sadly, we
don’t live in a parallel universe. In our universe, if we want something done, we
need to step out and take action. Now since we are on the topic of people who “step
out and take action”, one revolutionary technological hero is the late Silicon
Valley bigwig Steve Jobs.
We all know
who Steve Jobs is. This holiday season, forget the boring old bells and candy
canes, here’s two ways in which you can employ Mr. Jobs on your Christmas trees.
1. Do-It-Yourself Steve Jobs box figurine
Before assembly...
Upon downloading the picture, print it out as you would
normally for any document. Your finished assembled product should bare
resemblance to this:
The finished product!
2. Young Steve Jobs’ Time magazine cover
Young Steve with the first Apple Macintosh
2011 was the last and final time Steve Jobs appeared on the
cover of Time magazine. Now you can also use the cover as a Christmas tree
ornament in your very own home.
Still unconvinced on whether a Steve Jobs’ inspired
Christmas tree can actually work? Take a look at this Christmas tree designed
by the people at AVL Moving Systems as
their tribute to Steve.
Apart from employing Steve Jobs onto your Christmas trees
this year, consider these two other memorabilia to add to your collection.
3. “Here’s To The Crazy Ones” poster
In 1997, Apple ran its “Think Different” advertising
campaign. The campaign centered on historical figures such as Albert Einstein,
Martin Luther King and Muhammad Ali. It provoked consumers to consider
switching to or buying an Apple product as opposed to a PC. The campaign itself
turned out to be an enormous success, winning awards including the 1998 Emmy Award for Best Commercial and the 2000 Grand Effie Award for most effective campaign
in America.
Here’s an excerpt from the copy:
“Here’s to the crazy
ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square
holes.
The ones who see
things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the
status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them.
About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them.”
Sadly, the poster is no longer for sale. The best
alternative would be to download the image and print it out for framing onto
your wall.
4. Steve Jobs' biography
Here’s a piece of trivia you might not have known: the
biography was originally titled iSteve: The Book of Jobs. However, official biographer Walter
Isaacson’s wife and daughter thought that the title was “too cutesy”; hence
the book was renamed to just Steve Jobs.
There was nothing “cutesy” about the sales figures though: around 383,000 copies
of the book were sold on the first week alone. (Source: Gigaom)
Now that you have seen what can be hung on your Christmas
trees and learnt more about Apple’s visionary, what will you personally do to
celebrate the life of Steve Jobs? Leave your comments and thoughts!
